Take Responsibility for Your Own Success

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Today is a historic day, the inauguration of our 44th President of the United States of America. This event was on all the news networks and at noon, Barack Obama took the Oath of the Presidency. Then he spoke to us and I hope that you listened to his speech. If you missed it, you can go here. It was very motivating, inspirational and emotional.

That’s why I want to share with you another video, a short presentation by John Addison, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Primerica. He speaks about the responsibility we have for our success, and that we have a choice, being successful or not.

Why setting goals won’t work again this New Year, unless…

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

The New Year is here again, and it’s the time when we have the urge to set new goals. Why? Because everybody else does. And TV ads are there to remind us of the ceremony. They program us to buy the Jenny Craig, the NutriSystem and the South Beach Diet meals, or the Nicoderm patch.

So on new Year’s Eve, we go along, sometimes jokingly or for not appearing as an outcast at the family table, and we decide to stop smoking, to lose weight, to do better at our job, to have better relationships, to make more money, and on, and on…

We pave our minds with the best intentions. And then comes the next December 31 when we realize that nothing as really changed. We still smoke, we are overweight, we still have a lousy job and relationships that go with it, and not enough money at the end of the month.

Why didn’t it work? We said we would bring these changes. We may have even went so far as to write down these goals, like so many goal-setting courses teach. And we told our goals to our friends and partners. So, why did our goals fail?

Many people have written about how to set goals and how to reach them. The one that had an influence on me was Napoleon Hill, with his famous research book Think and Grow Rich. But that wasn’t enough. There was still something missing and I could not explain what, but i knew that it wasn’t working for me.

For me, it’s only when I learned about the Silva Method that I understood how to set the sixth steps described by Napoleon Hill and make them work together. And, the Silva Method is so much simpler to use. Instead of six, there are only three steps to take. Each is as important as the next to succeed.

First, there is Desire. Desire is more than a thought, more than a “I want” or “I need” and even more than “I wish”. Desire comes from deep inside the guts. It overtakes the whole body and gives you goose bumps every time you think of that desire. Sometimes, it could be a tingling sensation, a warm feeling, a feeling of comfort and happiness. Everyone feels desire in a different way, but the physical sensations of that particular desire of yours must exist deep inside of you.

Mentally, Desire is similar to an obsession, or as Napoleon Hill wrote, a “burning desire”. Examples in his book are abundant of the detailed lives of some of the most important personalities of the early 1900s. Today, we hear every day of people who have succeeded and reached their goals, winning athletes, professionals who make it to the top, and the “Joe the plumber” of the world who have a vision and a deep desire to move mountains.

So, what does your Burning Desire feel like? Are you ready to move mountains? Do you have goose bumps when you think of it?

To help you reaffirm that Desire, write down that goal; the reasons why you desire it; the feelings this Desire brings inside of you; the outcome you expect; the bridges you’ll need to burn to move closer towards your goal without turning back. Describe with as much details as you can so that it becomes easier to slice in smaller pieces the steps you’ll need to take to achieve your goal.

Only you can decide what you want in life because no one is stuck in a box unless you decide that it is your way. With the Silva Method, you learn how to develop your Desire and to program your own success. There are two additional steps to achieve success.

Join me in my next class to learn more about them.
