Coming back to life
Sunday, April 6th, 2008You noticed that it’s been several months since I last wrote on this blog. It’s certainly not from the lack of news to fill it. The world of mind is in constant effervescence and people are now opening more and more to the idea that there is help out there for them.Today, though I want to send you to an article I just read on the Montreal Gazette about NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming. In The Saboteur Within, you read the story of several individuals with issues like road rage and fear of riding an elevator. They overcame their problems with the help of this professional NLP practitioner.NLP is a communication model that was created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s. They discovered patterns of behavior and communication that made the difference between successful individuals and their peers. The person today that really brought NLP to life is Anthony Robbins with his lectures and books on success and the power within. It’s in 2001, that Robbins showed us that with NLP, anything is possible when you put your mind to it. In the movie Shallow Hal, Tony Robbins hypnotizes Hal (Jack Black) in the elevator and helps his mind focus on the inherent beauties and qualities of people around him. Soon, he meets and falls in love with Rosie (Gwynneth Paltrow), a 400-lb social worker whom Hal sees as the slim, beautiful and intelligent person that she truly is.What happens in Shallow Hal is the reframing of one’s thoughts and beliefs. It’s how we talk to us in our own minds. We often tend to beat us up mentally for our shortcomings and talk down to us. That’s when issues like depression, violence and anger become realities. How can we get out of it depends on how much we want to get out of it. But the techniques are simple and effective. At last resort, (people always like to wait for that last resort), they consult a pro who will help them guide their mind for a successful outcome.Have a great and relaxing Sunday with yourself.
